The Owl Box

This picture was taken in Horsedale, one of the many dales in the Yorkshire Wolds.

The Wolds Barn Owl Trust was formed in 2006 and 137 boxes were placed on farmland to encourage breeding. At this time the barn owl was a common sight in East Yorkshire but despite the best efforts of conservationists the numbers were severely depleted during the severe weather of 2011.

I have seen a barn owl in the vicinity of this box on a summer's evening but sadly not today.
