The moorings, Newark

I have never visited Newark before today at least not in the UK. (Have been to Newark, NY) though have travelled through the railway station too many times to count. I was meeting, mostly for the first time, members of the online cancer forum which offers good support to sufferers. We met in a pub and restaurant called the Moorings, which, appropriately named, was next door to the photo taken.

Somehow sharing our respective circumstances with others who understand the nuances of our disease was helpfully empathetic. Whatever we might or might not share as individuals in the wider world we have a common bond in our struggle. We could talk in shorthand, in detail, without embarrassment or need for lengthy explanations. We are all at different stages of the disease and with some supportive wives there too it was easy to support each other.

Of course we also had some good food and a few beers and wines. Nearing the end of my holiday now so it was a helpful and enjoyable event.
