Iseabail

We were lucky today to have a singing session with the great Iseabail MacAskill.

She is quite simply one of a kind.

She was the first Gaelic singer I heard live when I came up North, and she sang "Gradh geal mo chridhe" as part of a production by the Mull Little Theatre. This song is also known as the Eriskay Love Lilt, and I had never before heard it in Gaelic. The beautiful, soaring voice of Iseabail brought me to tears.

I knew when I heard her sing that I had done the right thing in moving North.

The quote of the year by Iseabail this afternoon - (please imagine this being said in a glorious Western Isles accent)......

"We are now going to sing a song which doesn't include death, drowning, or being dumped........ and, yes, it is STILL a Gaelic song"

Magic.
