Comfort

The cold temperatures and rolling blackouts continued today and those of us with electricity were urged to conserve it. We did our part by eating supper by candlelight and staying warm by the propane gas fireplace (most of the house is heated electrically).

This unretouched little study is the best of several shots taken while experimenting with exposure and focus lock in Pure for iPhone. I also tried a couple with Hipstamatic; but the retro, light smeared images produced by that app were not what this simple subject demanded.

I was intrigued by the different moods made possible by simply varying the angle of view. Shot from above the candle invokes a feeling of isolation. From below there was a sense of mystery. And from this angle: comfort - which is what I felt while dining with my family as the winds picked up outside.
