Morning

"We can't go back, you know." Roy (he hated being called Captain) looked out the window at the colorful, yet alien landscape. He looked tired, worn out and defeated, even though he and Conner had recently awakened from a voyage too long to consider.

Conner looked at his many screens, hitting buttons, adjusting levers, trying to look official and in charge, even though he was only the Tech. A high ranking Tech, but a Tech, nonetheless.

"It will be okay, I think.

"You THINK?" asked Roy with some emphasis, losing a bit of patience with his #1 Tech.

"Okay, I KNOW it will be all right. It looks odd in this light spectrum, but the air is breathable, the water is plentiful. All indications are that this will be a safe haven for us."

Roy looked doubtful. "Are you sure? How will we ever adjust to this? Will it drive us mad?"

Connor, apparently done with pushing and adjusting levers, joined him at the window. "Roy, this is beautiful! It's different, of course it's different! We knew it wouldn't be Earth....but this will be our new home. We are ready for this. There are 2, 588 people who are ready for a new beginning. Mankind has made the leap to this place and it is here we will make our stand. It will be okay."

"Well, it better be, Conner, because we have no choice."

"Roy, I promise there is food to be had out there, and according to the reports, there is something closely resembling fish in that pond. Tomorrow night, I'm grilling it."

"Got enough for 2,588?", asked Roy with a soft laugh.

"Hey, that storage facility on deck 4 has beer, so I think we will make this a true "landing party". Conner returned to his screens and began pushing buttons.

Roy, smiling and looking not quite so peaked, even in the strange light that illuminated his face, glanced over at Conner. Conner punched the last button and music filled the air. It was time to wake them all.
