morning light. this morning i went to jongmyo, which is a shrine dedicated to memorials for the kings and queens of the joseon dynasty. it's a very peaceful place; solemn, modest and tranquil are all adjectives that come to mind. unlike korean palaces, the decoration and ornamentation is very simple and subdued. no bright colours or intricate painting. this is a room in one of the smaller structures on the site, and the glow of the sun through the paper window perfectly encapsulated my feelings of peace, comfort and warmth.
