Black and Gold

I went to the zoo again today, but the light was terrible! I wasn't very happy with the AF performance of the Nikon 1 on my last visit (the NEX 6 was unimpressive recently too), so I decided to take a phase-detect camera this time. The AF worked better in reasonable light, but with a rather slow long zoom (55-200 f/4-5.6) it did struggle sometimes, and the high ISO performance of the camera (A77) was quite disappointing. This is a flash photo - I'm not a great fan of flash, but it was the only way I could hope to freeze movement in the Monkey Tails building. It did succeed in that respect, but even at ISO 500 in there with flash (I was at ISO 3200 outside) the noise was unacceptable with this camera, and I am DEFINITELY NOT a pixel-peeper! Add to that the weight and the fact that I find 24Mp reduces the performance of my 2 year old fairly high spec MBP to barely acceptable, while 16Mp is fine, and that 16Mp resolution is usually more than adequate for my purposes. Next time I go to the zoo I'll take the E-M1, and see how it copes with the conditions.
