Raymond Depardon : Un moment si doux

"A moment so tender" is how Raymond Depardon labelled a box where he kept some of his photographs. Being one of the most important contemporary photographs of France, it was interesting to visit the exhibition in the Paris Grand Palais, althoug the title is quite misleading. The pictures are rather harsh, showing wide spaces and the solitude of cities.

Here a series of pictures that were taken in Rio Gallegos, Argentina (2012) within 1 hour. He tried to understand who this girl with the 4 dogs was.

About the question what to photograph, from which distance, etc. the following statement from Pierre Bourdieu (a french sociologist) was mentioned in the exhibition:
"Photography is a manifestation of the distance of the observer, who collects his data, and is always aware that he is collecting data."
