TRIMMING THE HEDGE ON A DAMP EVENING

Most of my hedges get flailed every year - and my man John makes sure they are cut to the same point each time to be a gentle as possible. However, some of my hedges will be cut less frequently, and this is one of those. The three years' growth hazel is ideal as the main structural stems in my current (the Amoeba) land art project. Also, hedges left uncut for a few years are enormously more beneficial to wildlife providing more cover and more fruit. I plan to survey these hedges for dormice next Spring and Summer.
