At Ross: calm before the storm
The River Wye spilled over the bank side a few days ago. It filled the riverside footpath quickly, travelling over nearby fields filling winter crops. It travelled onward onto riverside car parks flooding the boat house, so that even the boats were stranded. It travelled into the riverside pub and the bandstand both for once standing quietly silent and at the waters will.
Today, the water receded. Just a little. Like a plug being pulled out, the water sucked away. Its position changed from threatening and menacing to a position of retreat. The river path just visible again. Hope.
The weathermen say more rain tomorrow. May the water retreat, with the incoming rain. Not rise and flow, but ebb and go!....x
