January Challenge: Day 4 .....

Scratchy.

I can attest to these purple coneflower seed heads being scratchy as I had to move some aside in order to take this picture!

Echinacea purpurea (eastern purple coneflower or purple coneflower) is a species of flowering plant in the genus Echinacea of the family Asteraceae. Its cone-shaped flowering heads are usually, but not always, purple in the wild. It is native to eastern North America and present to some extent in the wild in much of the eastern, southeastern and midwest United States.*

We just love these lovely flowers when they are in full bloom during the summer. And they make for interesting blip potential in the winter. This one still holds some of the 8 inches of snow we got the other day.
