Bread and Water
Well not quite! The last guests of the festive season left this morning. So instead of doing all the cleaning things that we normally do, we downed tools and went a drive instead. On the way home we were about to pass by the Borrowdale Hotel when we suddenly realised that it was Sunday, it was lunch time and we were able to have that rare thing called Sunday lunch without worrying about having to be back to greet guests. We'd never been inside the hotel before and took it for your run of the mill Lake District hotel. We didn't even look at the menu, we had our hearts set on Sunday lunch and quite probably a mediocre one at that. As soon as we entered the dining room we grasped immediately that we were wrong in our assumptions. Too late; dressed in our finest fleeces, denims and walking boots, we were ushered to our table through lots of middle aged, dressed for dinner types. Menus were presented. Twenty quid a skull for lunch! Oh well, we'd still to treat ourselves to Christmas dinner so what the hell, in for a penny... What a fantastic lunch it was. Soup and mackerel was followed by roast beef and nut loaf with all the trimmings followed by mandarin cheesecake and white chocolate mouse followed by cheese and biscuits followed by coffee in the lounge. Silverware on the table and Silver service; a bargain I say!
