Granny oaks
Richmond Park has a lot of superb old 'granny oaks'. Great tangled trees, bent and broken, many of advanced age. The policy is now to leave them and pile up the fallen timber to help the biodiversity of the park which is all a good thing. But you can't help feeling there are pitifully few young oaks growing up to replace them. Everything up to 6' is stripped and eaten by the deer, and there are just a few shrouded young trees trying to make the height before the hungry mouths find a way to get to them.
