My man in the moon

A lovely day, where Ry and I made it our mission to get out of the house and get some fresh air. We'd decided last night that whatever-the-weather we were going to go on an epic trek through the countryside, to see how far away from home we could get. Okay, so our plan to leave the house at 10am didn't exactly materialise, and I think it was closer to midday once we'd got going. This only left us about 4 proper hours of light to walk in, but it didn't matter. I left my camera at home, for fear it would get drenched in the rain. We left Ryan's to walk over the Dunstable Downs, then down a long road to a village called Dagnall. From here we took various muddy footpaths, through a farm, up to and through the Ashridge estate and then down the hill the other side to a village called Aldbury. I've just google mapped our route, and I think we must have walked about 7-8 miles in about 3 hours. Not too bad going, once you factor in the various up-and-down hills and the mud. So much mud. Even though it was raining pretty much constantly, the rain had no-where near soaked us through to the skin... which we were kind of disappointed about: we'd prepared ourselves for extreme weather and it didn't really happen.

Upon reaching Aldbury we decided it was probably a sensible idea to stop in for a drink in the pub... we did have great intentions of carrying on with the walk after a quick drink... but once we'd got settled by the cosy log fire, and finished a glass of delicious mulled wine... and then a pint of cider... those intentions went right out of the window. Instead, we called my parents to see if they would mind ever so much if they picked us up en route on their way home - so they stopped in at the pub with us, where tea and scones then happened.

Once getting home to Ryan's house, we devoured 3 episodes of The Pacific (we're both really getting in to the series now), devoured an Indian takeaway (mmm), and then sat up in his room looking at stars through the skylight. After a few failed attempts at trying to photograph the sky, I gave up and photographed our reflections instead. The bright (unfocussed) light you can see through the window is the North Star.
