We were determined to see the Arabian Desert.

One can book any number of trips in bone-shaking vintage Land Rovers, or modern versions, careering over sand dunes in car-sick inducing manoeuvres.

But we chose our own tour in the hotel-provided, air-conditioned, six day old Lexus ES350.

Just beyond the city limits, on the road to Saudi Arabia to see this scene.
