Wrong perfume?

Dark clouds scudding across the sky, and very heavy rain overnight. Big puddles everywhere. I am so thankful that we don't live in a vulnerable place, but feel very sorry for those who do.
In a break in the weather I popped outside for my blip and found this Mahonia. It is a pretty flower, but why does it smell so strongly of Lily of the Valley?
