The Downies are Back

This downy woodpecker let me creep very close - I was down on my stomach in the snow, and it was after some suet that had fallen from the feeder and lay buried. There have been a lot of downies around recently - nice to see them back. I know they are supposed to be here year round, but until this week, I hadn't seen one at either of our feeders since we came back from our trip out west in mid-November. Now they are everywhere! Which reminds me - I forgot to mention it earlier - New Year's Eve was a 4 woodpecker day - downy, hairy, red-bellied and pileated. And all without leaving home!
