Broken hearted

The last few orange ringed trees were being felled today, it'll be interesting to see how the woods appear when they're fully leafed again, I hope there's not going to be too many gaps.
Went into my bank today to demand ask nicely for a new bank card, mine has been playing up for a while but still worked in cashpoints (cash is king here in Germany) then it stopped working in cashpoints and I decided enough was enough. I made very sure that the card was totally knackered (because when I went two months ago to plead for a new card the cow job's worth woman told me the chip was still fine, in perfect working order and that the error lay with the card readers in the shops...so unamused) by sitting a couple of heavy duty magnets on the strip for an hour or so.
The young (possibly only started shaving last month) guy who served me asked if I'd tried the card in the cashpoints in the foyer...I should learn to lie, I really should. And only after we'd been and tried (Little miss bossy was along for the ride) would he allow me to apply for a replacement card, which I have to pay €5 for...so why oh why, if I have to pay for the damn pleasure of a sparkly new card anyway did I have to jump through so many hoops to get a new card?
Germany, the land that time forgot (and customer service has yet to discover.)
