Bridge over tranquil waters
This little bridge crosses one of the rivers that feeds the Howden Dam - that's the one above the Derwent Dam, both of which star in the film 'Dambusters'.
My Auntie Betty lived in Bamford, the Peak District village just south of the dams. She painted a picture of the bridge when I was a teenager. I may have got the story wrong, but my recollection is that the bridge is old and was orginally located elsewhere, dismantled stone by stone to keep it safe from WWII bombs and re-erected here after the war.
Visits to Auntie Betty and Uncle John's were a great treat. I had my own attic bedroom and grilling bacon woke me each morning - very different from what passed for 'home'. No-one there made anyone breakfast, get your own or go without.
