PICU day #1
I was getting pretty nervous this morning before I left for my first day of work at the peds ICU. There was something about knowing that I was about to see a bunch of really sick kids that made me a little nervous for my emotional state, turns out I did just fine. Nobody on the unit knew I was suppose to be there this month, so that was annoying right off the bat. Everyone was really nice but I didn't have anybody willing to take responsibility for me, so I just kind of followed them around. Luckily everyone is on the same floor all day so it made it a little easier to try and not get lost.
This is just what stinks about being a student in the hospital. Everyone thinks they have way better things to do than make sure we have a clue as to what we should be doing. A that's probably true, but just rally frustrating since I am spending a lot of time and money to be there, I would like to get a little something in return. I'm not saying that is the case with this rotation as I have only been there for one afternoon so far. My attitude is still positive and hopefully I can use this as an opportunity to make my own schedule! That kind of freedom means so much to me. For one it's bedtime before a possible 12 hour shift tomorrow.
