Fred's adventure

This morning I took Fred for (what was meant to be) a quick walk (still suffering, as I am, with a horrible cold). Just after this, when Fred was off the lead in the woods, the sky blackened, the rain lashed and there was even thunder. I called and whistled and eventually headed home, soaked to the skin. Without Fred.

Steve took off to search the woods. Nothing. I drove around the lanes and familiar walking routes. Nothing.

Finally, after two hours, my mobile rang. Fred was found in someone's garden, their visitor (coincidentally another Irish owner) took him off to the vets to get his chip scanned (I hadn't realised Fred's ID tag had fallen off). Fred is now back home, safe and sound. Actually I think he'd have found his way back home but I'm very grateful to the woman who found him and did the right thing.

Phew.
