The Font Stane on Monks Rig

Today's lunch time walk saw me heading up over Monks Rig, in The Pentland Hills, passing the Font Stane.

Some online investigations show that despite it's name, it is actually the base of an ancient cross rather than a font.

Apparently in 1833 some shepherds found some copper coins under the stone which may explain why it had a few coins in it, like a somewhat remote (& shallow) wishing well.
