Given In Trust To The Inhabitants Of Pickering
One of my crazy photographic resolutions for 2014: I've got together with a bunch of local photographer mates (hi Mike, Andy, Neil and Tim!) and between us we've hatched a plan to record a year in the life of our town: Pickering, North Yorkshire.
The idea is to capture the people, places, businesses, events, traditions and activities that give this little market town its distinctive character.
We don't know exactly what we're going to do with the photos at the end of the year; maybe an exhibition, website, calendar, photobook...? Who knows. For now we're just going to take some pics and see where it leads...
I've been trying to get started for the last few days but the light's been a bit rubbish. To get into the zone I started looking for the town name in prominent positions, such as the sign at the steam train station. Then this lunchtime the sky was blue and the sun was shining in the right kind of direction to pick out the inscription on one side of the Memorial Hall (Pickering's town hall).
In full it reads:
"WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE -- THE MEMORIAL HALL -- IS GIVEN IN TRUST TO THE INHABITANTS OF PICKERING"
So it feels like I got started on the project today :-)
