Letterbox Baby

I checked on my starlings this morning, these ones, expecting them to have flown the nest. There was one still there - and he looks pretty small. I'm not sure if he's been abandoned, if the others have just left earlier, or if in the end he was the only survivor.

It will be interesting to see what happens to him over the next few days. If you look at this in large you'll see that he appears to have some sort of red mite (below and to the right of his eye). It is in a different place in each shot I took so it's definitely alive. I don't know if this is normal for birds or not. hope the poor wee chap (the bird not the mite) is okay.
