For Riverdale2

Last night Riverdale2 posted an moon shot taken with an iPad and asked how to get better pictures. Riverdale, I was about to post some tips but you have comments switched off.

So I thought the easy thing to do would be to take a sample shot and post it as POTD. Problem is I wanted the L plates shot of my daughter for that.

No problem, I thought, I'll wait till after midnight and post. Sadly by that point the moon was about to set and so much dimmer .

Ok, I thought, wait till Wednesday evening a do another shot. Nope, overcast.

So, finally, I decided to take a screen shot (including camera settings) of yesterday's photo for today's submission. And here it is. Ironically, the screen shot was taken with an iPad.

So, points to remember

1. Use Manual Mode
2.The moon is BRIGHT. Use quite a high shutter speed
3. Use the longest lens you have (300mm in this case)
4. You will still need to CROP
5. Use a tripod if possible
6. Shoot RAW if possible because you'll be doing some tweeking of the image.

Hope this helps ...

Original shot here if you want to see it.
