After the Rain
We had very heavy rain here during the night. The weather was clearing when I arose at 5.am. I need to get a head start as I had a busy day organised. Thus the dogs and I were out walking well before 6.am. It is wonderful just how much difference a decent fall of rain makes. The dust has been laid low, the ground is damp but summer warm and all the dry grasses and vegetation look sparkling clean. I spent quite a bit of time photographing the dawn light on the Richmond Range, a favourite subject of mine. Damp clouds were lying along the length of the mountains, the remainder of last night’s rain. The earth smelt fresh and new. With the birds just beginning to sing and the sound of magpies chortling all was well with the world….for me….in Marlborough.
