Watching the city rise

Berry and I sat on the balcony this evening to watch sunset. We couldn't help but marvel at how quickly the city is heading skyward, with apartment block after apartment block rising from plots previously home to traditional wooden houses. The problem is, there is no oversight of development, no planning permission needed (as long as you pay your bribes) and no town planning, which is leading to ugly, unsustainable development with no safety precautions (none of these highrises have fire escapes).
