down the bunny hole

Another day, a different Fen

We ventured over to Lakenheath Fen today, which is an RSPB nature reserve. It has been a beautiful sunny day. When we arrived we had a chat with one of the volunteers and then further along our walk we bumped into the site manager who offered to walk with us down to the next hide and was very informative about the history of the fen, why they initially got funding to restore it (to provide suitable habitat for Bitterns) and the birds that were now on the site. We were incredibly lucky to see a pair of Cranes flying over the fen and also a Snipe.
Home to hot soup and garlic bread and hopefully a good night's sleep!
