Beachcombing

Fight!

Guided a group from my Photographic Society to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Centre at Martin Mere. A rather unpromising start turned into a lovely day of winter sun. Although the good weather was much appreciated it did pose difficulties when photographing the swans to prevent burnout of the whites.

Although only mid-January love was in the air as the wildfowl went seeking mates. This resulted in confrontations ranging from mild posturing to all out fights where serious injury was possible. This blip shows one such fight in progress. The two Mallard males were each attempting to dominate the other by forcing their opponent under the water. Happily the fight conclude without visible injury.
