One Billion Rising 2014 - Rising for Justice

The 'Billion Rising' is a global campaign against domestic violence, initiated by Eve Ensler (creator of The Vagina Monologues') and on 14th February each year women, girls and their supporters are invited to Rise.

In 2013 the world danced to the song 'Break the Chain' and in 2014 we will be drumming for justice. Here in Norwich it will be outside the Forum, in the city centre and today we had our first practice. You don't need to be a drummer and you don't need a 'proper' drum. We are using everday domestic implements and our bodies to make a glorious noise.

We have a lovely woman called Maddie teaching us the beats and we've gathered together most of the core organising group from last year. It's great to be working with them again.

We had our first practice session this morning and will be practicing each Sunday morning until the event on 14th February.

Here you see some of the things we used this morning. The 'Hope' tin was donated by a fantastic local artist, Vince Laws.
