Marvel

A bright but cold morning, with ground frost. We took ourselves for a circular walk along the River Tweed. From the height of the grasses stuck in the bushes we could see how high the water had got when the river flooded over Christmas. There were several trees blown down over our path too. In the distance we could see the high hills dusted with snow. We stopped for some time and marvelled at the engineering of the Neidpath Viaduct. Its built with a beautiful curve and sits obliquely to the river so that the pillars are directly in line with the flow of the water. The arches themselves are twisted and create the most wonderful curving angles. I have photographed the viaduct previously in April 2013 and December 2013. Its such a shame it is being allowed to slowly deteriorate in condition - there were various blocks of stone which had fallen away and water seeps through the stone work. We returned home feeling very cold and ready for our lunch!
