Playing life by ear.

A rose by any name....

My name is actually Rosemary, not Rose, but I didn’t encounter a blipable rosemary shrub today.
My mother was expecting her second child and hoping for a pretty daughter with fair curly hair, instead of which, she got me, and rather than being named Wendy, as planned I was called Rosemary.
My first nick name at school was Rosca and since then I’ve been called many things including some rude ones.
Name and Surname together has nearly always meant trouble ahead.
In Italy I’m called:
Rozzmeri with the accent on the first or second syllable.
Meri, Roz, Me, Rosi, Rosa, Nonna Rosa (granny Rosa), by my grand daughter.
Best of all is just Nonna………. as said by Lorenzo and Alessandro, who drag out the a sound into a kind of aaah.
I find it interesting how the choice of name or abbreviation says so much. It makes it easier to discern who are the real friends and family who care.
