Childhood activities
In a conversation the other day about why I have a pile of badges from places I've visited, I decided to ferret in the drawers and get out my camp blanket. It was a blanket designed for durability and warmth not so much for cosiness or comfort. A beige wool blanket, divided into a third and two thirds and embellished with pink wool blanket stitching. It was designed to be rolled into your bedding roll with your sleeping bag and then placed between the groundsheet and your sleeping bag and wrapping over to keep you snug.
One day I might blip the entire thing. On it is a record of a lot of my childhood, swim badges, brownie/guide badges and these badges (one of which appears to have fallen off/never been attached) my Gymnastics badges. I can't remember much of those days, you start and end each move with your arms above your head. In between you perform some feat of gymnastic brilliance, maybe a forwards roll. If my memory serves me correctly there were certain moves you had to perform correctly to gain your badge. I think level 4 was probably the highest I got.
Given I now occasionally camp out I'm consider buying a softer, more snuggley blanket (probably in a darker colour) and transferring the badges. It may well even become my armchair blanket too.
