A Monumental Task

With the success of the 'Edinburgh Christmas' attractions, the cooncil have decided to move the Scott Monument to make way for more stalls and fairground rides, so they've enlisted this crane to pick it up and transport it to its new home...

Not quite, but I did get chatting to one of the guys who is working on getting all the Edinburgh Christmas stuff packed up. Apparently, this year's big wheel was so heavy that the ground it sat on had to be reinforced with steel rods that were sunk 14m into the ground. When he said it, I remembered that I saw them drilling holes around that area earlier in the year, but that nothing seemed to come of it. Now I know what it was for! Amazing the things you learn whilst out on a lunch time blip wander.
