African Queen

Another of my favourite tropical fish ... this one is a female Kribensis (or Krib for short). The species originates from Africa. She takes on a bright pink spot when she is sexually mature (as she is now).

This species likes to spawn in secret ... usually in caves. I have bred them before. The parents take all the baby fry into their mouths for protection if the shoal is threatened. This rarely happens though, as the parents defend their fry religiously, even against much larger opponents. Lots of young Kribs will survive, even if born in a community tank.
