Refuge
Fascinating
To watch the small bird
Racing along the shingle shore
Seeking food
Against the pounding tide
And taking refuge
On a rocky island
When it got a bit too much.
I think this little lovely is a turnstone (Arenaria interpres) but I may be proved wrong (again) - I'm not sure if his beak's a little long? The bright orange legs stand out beautifully against the grey surroundings. I did try to get the whole bird against the frothy white sea so that he would be clearer to see but failed.
The sea was surprisingly choppy on Reculver beach and the wind bitingly cold. But it's nothing like the wintry conditions a year ago, when I blipped another feathered friend.
