Keep Calm and Carry On North
Visited the Kessock Bridge today.
It's a cable-stayed bridge across the Beauly Firth, an inlet of the Moray Firth, between the village of North Kessock and the city of Inverness.
The bridge has a total length of 1,056 metres with a main span of 240 metres (787 feet). Designed by German engineer Hellmut Homberg and built by Cleveland Bridge, it is similar to a bridge across the Rhine in Düsseldorf. The Beauly Firth is a navigable waterway so the bridge is raised high over sea level.
The bridge carries the A9 trunk road, and 30,000 vehicles per day, between Inverness and the Black Isle. The bridge was build between 1976 and 1982 and is currently undergoing a major refurbishment.
I've visited several times but never seen it on a nice calm day. It had to be the blipfoto of the day. This is a panoramic of two pictures joined together using the wonders of modern science.
