Royal Spoonbill/Kotuku-ngutupapa/Platalea regia

Lovely day...clear sky, sun, light summery breeze, hum of lawn mowers and the smell of cut grass. Memories of summers when I was a child.

Coffee sitting in the car, windows down and watching these lovely birds feeding. They are not that common in our neck of the woods - only about 225 in Otago. Considered native but share with Australia from whence our few originally came. This is my first sighting of three in one place and I suspect they maybe Mum and two kids! The bird back right is bigger than the other two and I am assuming this is Mum.
