Time Piece
I saw this while visiting my aunt earlier today. She is recovering from a small stroke, looking well enough, better, I think, than a few days before she went into hospital. I noticed she had placed this old clock-case on her windowsill. I recognised it, though can't quite remember from where (my grandparents' old house or my aunt's), or even if I had ever seen it with its face intact.
Clocks are metaphors of course, since time itself is neither here nor there (while being everywhere all at once). So a faceless clock, gutted of its superficial, practical application, becomes metaphorically richer, closer to telling the exact, perpetually present, time.
