Incoming!
I was at the airport this afternoon and came in for quite a shock. With Gail's camera poised, I watched the LoganAir flight from Kirkwall on approach. I became very concerned when the pilot didn't line up with the tarmac. "He's turning too early" I thought to myself. Part of me was telling me to put the camera down. As I sheltered behind the 'terminal', out of the driving wind and rain, fully expecting for the craft to pass to my right, it straightened up on a course to my left. It zoomed over the road, over the low wall and landed safely despite my fears. I popped indoors to ask how long they've had two runways, to be rebuffed with the response that they actually have three. Well I never knew. When I got home I checked on Google maps. Two of the runways are grass without much to denote them. I certainly have never seen any evidence of them from the road, which I have by now traversed hundreds of times. One lives and learns. Next time I hope to be less shocked.
