Aashayein - home for the poor
Sunday - it was the breakfast activity time again...after tomorrow's tiring ride, I was glad that today's breakfast serving venue was not too far from my place...it is a home for poor kids...there are about 35 inmates, most of whom are already sponsored for...they go to a public school nearby and many can actually somewhat converse in broken english...the place was vibrant...they were all boys and mischief was all around in the air...hitting each other with volleyball, pulling each others hair, running around - just the kind of stuff young boys like to do...exhausted by all that, they ate like they hadn't eaten in ages...
as usual, there were lot of requests and enthusiasm about photographs...I had to click a truck load of photos but finally decided to keep just a few...we ended spending a lot more time than we initially planned to...and you blame the kids for that...the string of games that started after breakfast didn't seem to have an end...they all introduced themselves one by one, someone sang, some danced, some told a joke - all for a couple of candies in return...later they all divided themselves into 4 groups and played antakshari (antakshari is one of the most popular picnic games in India. it is played mostly between two teams - no restrictions on team size...one team sings a few lines of a song, following which the second team sings a song starting with the letter on which the first team's song ended...this goes on an on till the songs or people are exhausted)
