My (NHS) dentist said I had to go to the (private) hygienist because I'm pregnant and at risk of pregnancy gingivitis.

I thought it'd be awful, I'm scared of the shooting nerve pains you can get when they stick a pointy thing down your gum. Last time I went I had my mouth fully numbed.

In fact it was fine, anesthetic free, pain free and pregnancy gingivitis free.
