The Factory
That inevitable event that we, the workers, so valiantly held off, has finally come to pass.
The Factory is silent, and closed. No more sumptuous photography from inside the heart of a community.
The factory lads have been laid off, and the rest of us called in to a meeting, to hear the final toll of the work bell. Ceased trading. 89 redundancies.
And our hearts are broken.
The bosses will thrive better than the rest of us no doubt.
The moment was taken with great dignity and composure, and for that I am so proud of my colleagues.
There is a knock on effect from situations like this, far reaching, with lots of other companies losing monies owed, and in turn affecting their workers and families.
I do not consider myself to be a socialist, or anything else for that matter, Just an observer. But it seems to me, somewhat interesting how the directors can retire quietly to plan another business adventure and gamble with the livelihoods of the next lot of victims. whilst we the wreckage that remain, have to suffer the ignominy of "Signing on"
I have never been unemployed before, and I think at my age, this is going to be something of a trial.
This really is the Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire, and there is little hope!
