Crested China 2 - Petersfield

This item of Crested China arrived today having been spotted on Monday on a certain well known internet auction site..... This was a "buy it now" item and was very reasonable. It also happens to be by Goss who are considered to be the top quality collectable maker of this particular type of china. As I have been collecting different pieces from Hampshire and Sussex and Kent among other areas, this was a good find!

Petersfield was established as a town in the 12th Century and there have been a good number of notable people born or have lived there. I thought I would quickly mention two very different but interesting people.... Erica Roe worked in a bookshop in the town and came to notoriety when on the 2 January 1982 she streaked across the pitch at Twickenham during an England v Australia Rugby Union match and exposed her 40 inch bosom! She also released a record at the end of the same year which was recorded at East Tisted, not far away. (Which I have a copy of!!!).

The Comedienne and Actress Miranda Hart although born in Torquay, grew up in Petersfield - her father Captain David Hart Dyke was Commanding Officer of HMS Coventry which was sunk by the Argentines in the Falklands War and was badly burned as a result. A hugely talented lady, she is rarely off our TV Screens. She was educated at the same school in Berkshire as Clare Balding and the two were friends. Two very different former residents of Petersfield!
