The only way to travel
Up to Glasgow today for my annual medical with Dr D – always an event to be somewhat concerned about. However, once again, I cheat the Gods of Doom and grab another year’s work! Dr D always has some interesting stories to tell – this time it was about how easy it was to fall asleep at the sharp end of a Shackleton, and some good stories about flying Tiger Moths and Stampes – his personal favourite. I fear he may not be around for much longer though. He’s getting on.
The picture today is not very good – it’s the view of my laptop set up on the train. But that’s the point – try doing THAT in a car!
I LOVE travelling by train – especially Virgin trains – and even more so when they are as empty as this one was.
I prefer to go by train for any length of journey in preference to driving if I can – you can just chill out, watch the world go by, have a snooze, do some work, read a book, eat some food, listen to some music and then lo and behold – you’re there! And if you book it right, you can get first class for much cheapness – which is genuinely the ONLY way to travel. Free food, big table, good seats, peace and quiet – fantastic.
Of course, sometimes trains suck – loads of screaming kids, people listening to music set at way too high a volume to be safe on headsets emitting a screaming high-pitched noise which slowly sends you insane… bah humbug.
However, today was good. Easy up to Glasgow, easy back down – bish bash bosh.
Here’s to another year in the saddle.
