An English Country Garden

Driving back home today in the usual rain, I came across this surprising site.

It's the front garden of a cottage in a Sussex village.
I've never noticed it before, even though it's less than 10 miles from home.
It looks well-established, but I don't know any more about it other than what I saw today.
