Young writers

Today we received this certificate in the post! Ellie's 100 word story, based on a fairy tale, Ellie chose Snow White, has been chosen to be included in the publication of a collection of 100 word stories called Aa Twist in a Tale.
The competition was for 11-18 year olds across Northern Ireland and Scotland. The book will be published in April this year, a copy of which will be submitted to the British library!
Ellie based hers in Snow White. Ironically her teacher wasn't impressed with the ending and thought Ellie could have done better! It was a well used ending - to us as adults, but to children the idea is a new one. In this case it was waking up to realise the huntsman was not killing her (Snow White) it was all just a terrible, but every real dream. She had written it in the present tense which gave it a feeling of immediacy and fear. In 100 words I thought it was rather good!
Writing is something Ellie does enjoy, despite great troubles with spelling, it doesn't inhibit her creativity!

UPDATE

Well a terrible update :( We have since discovered it is an awful scam that even the school clearly doesn't realise, but will on Monday morning. The "competition" is run by the Walton's family, now under the name Bonacis Ltd. This is not the first time, they just take parents money for books, liquidate the business and come back a few months later under a different name. Ellie is devastated, as is the rest of her year as they all apparently "won". How crushing for children :( I'm so angry and disappointed for her.
