What a way to spend Christmas
Feeling for those who lost power over Christmas. What bad timing for a storm with winds gusting very badly. Even on the chart average winds were 35 to 40 mph. (17 metres per second recorded at RAF Leuchars on the east coast of Scotland).
While turbines may be able to cope with such wind speeds and generate healthy quantities of power, the gusting can and did bring down power lines or trees that fell on power lines. Though power was available, the means to deliver it to some home was not. A dismal festive season for some.
