Flag of Doom!
Through the rowing club I discovered Anu Dudhia's daily measurement of river levels on the Isis (the Thames as it passes through Oxford) taken at Iffley Lock. For those of us in the flood zone it's a great way to keep an eye on rising waters.
This January he recorded the highest level he's ever seen - 43" above normal.
The University uses a flag system to regulate rowing outings. Green, Amber, Red, pretty much like traffic lights, and in extremis - the Flag of Doom which boasts not just a flash of lightening but a skull too.
For anyone local who wants to see the rise and fall of river levels here's the link.
