We walk to our neighborhood’s Friday outdoor mercado for our week’s supply of fruits, vegetables, eggs, seafood and gorgeous long-stem roses (20 for $4). I enjoy watching all the interactions that occur. Someday, I hope to be less of an observer and more of a participant in the weekly exchanges. And over time, I’d like to be perceived not so much as a foreigner but as a neighbor.
